BIO

Karine Laval (b. 1971, French, American) is a Brooklyn-based artist born in Meudon near Paris, France. She graduated from the CELSA - Paris Sorbonne in France, where she majored in communications and journalism and completed her art, photography and design education at the School of Visual Arts and the New School in New York. Laval's artistic practice encompasses photography, video, projection, public art and immersive installations. The artist’s still and moving images challenge our perceptions of the world, and are a bridge between reality and a more surreal dimension.

Laval’s work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States, and internationally at such venues as the Musée National Du Chateau De Malmaison, Rueil-Malmaison, France; Palm Springs Art Museum, Palm Springs, CA (USA); the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Los Angeles, CA (USA); the Sorlandet Art Museum in Kristiansand (Norway); the French Cultural Center in Oslo (Norway); and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris (France). The artist’s short film State of Flux screened at the 6th ASVOFF International Film Festival in Rome and at Centre Pompidou, Paris, France.
