BIO

In bright paintings, sculptures, and installations, Farshad Farzankia considers how meaning translates across borders. The artist uses a bold palette and a spare, expressionistic iconography—lots of birds, faces, and plants—that holds both personal and cultural significance. Cameras reference Farzankia’s love of film, while tulips suggest the posters that decorated the Tehran streets where the artist grew up. Farzankia, who was born in Iran and now lives in Copenhagen, worked in graphic design and advertising before transitioning to a career in fine art in 2016. Since that move, Farzankia has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Copenhagen, and his work has been collected by the Arken Museum of Modern Art, the New Carlsberg Art Foundation, Yusaku Maezawa Private Collection, and the Progressive Art Collection.
