BIO
Halsey Hathaway ( b. 1980, Lockport, NY) received his BFA from the Pratt Institute of Art & Design (2002) and his MFA from Hunter College (2006). His work consists of stark, contrasting colors and shapes made with layers of stains, paint, and hand-made stencils. Hathaway has been making this body of work for over a decade, and has exhibited throughout North and Central America.
Hathaway has been included in group exhibitions at Jack Hanley Gallery, New York, NY; Gazebo Gallery, Kent, OH; Site/Displace at Kristen Lorello, New York, NY; Drawings, Denny Gallery, New York, NY; New Paintings, Storefront Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY; and Line and Plane, McKenzie Fine Art, New York, NY. He has had three solo exhibitions at Rawson Projects, New York, NY and one solo exhibition at SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, NC. Notably, he was also featured in the exhibition Painters NYC at Paramo Galleria, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico which then traveled to Museo de los Pintores Oaxaquenos, Oaxaca, Mexico. He has been awarded the Tony Smith Award from Hunter College and was a fellow in painting from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Hathaway’s new works were included along Grace Stott’s works in SOCO Gallery’s booth at NADA Miami in December, 2025. He lives and works in New York.
