LAUREN LULOFF
GREEN WORLD

NOVEMBER 9, 2022 - JANUARY 4, 2023

Opening Reception with the Artist
Wednesday, November 9, 6 – 8 PM

SOCO Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Green World, a solo exhibition by artist Lauren Luloff. The gallery will host a public opening reception November 9, 2022 from 6-8PM. This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition with SOCO Gallery.

Green World presents new dyed silk works created by the artist from the current year, 2022.  Luloff dyes silk to create captivating environments stewed with rich colors, textures and a sense of touch. Through painting and sewing, the artist collages together disparate elements whose friction and harmony coalesce to form a narrative.  Luloff’s pieces are about endlessness, an everlasting flow of images, narratives and color relationships.

The timely process includes brush-painting the dyes onto the stretched fabric, and then unstretching and steaming the silk to allow the dye to permanently set. Influenced by the landscape around her, Luloff distills the colors into simplified forms – waves, trees, and florals can be seen in the silks. Luloff finds inspiration in "color combinations, light, shadows… flowers everywhere."

Each dyed silk represents a moment in time, creating conversations between light and space. Interacting with the works can be compared to looking through window film, out towards a dimensionally altered and intensely colorful reality. The tile-like grids create a graceful contrast to the sublime shapes of nature. They play together paradoxically, implying both chaos and order.
