BIO
Martha Clippinger (b. 1983, Columbus, Georgia) received a BA from Fordham University and a MFA from Mason Gross School of Art, Rutgers University. Clippinger is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a 2022 Artist Support Grant from the Durham Arts Council, a 2019 Finalist Award for the Society 1858 Prize for Contemporary Art from the Gibbes Museum, a 2014 American Academy of Arts and Letters Purchase Award, and a 2013 Fulbright-Garcia Robles research grant completed in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Clippinger’s works range in medium, most notably painted sculpture and fiber art works. She is in the public collections of The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park, KS; the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, GA; and The North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC, where she recently exhibited murals titled Through Line and Vibrating Boundaries (2024). She has been a fellow at Kohler Arts & Industry, the Sam and Adele Golden Art Foundation, Artspace, MacDowell Colony, Edward F. Albee Foundation, and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation. Her work has been featured in several publications, including The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, and The Huffington Post. Clippinger lives and works in Durham, North Carolina.
