BIO
Twins Nikolai and Simon Haas (b. 1984, Austin, Texas) create irreverent sculptures that explore themes related to nature, fantasy, and sexuality. Simon Haas received a B.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2008, and Nikolai also attended RISD before founding ‘The Haas Brothers’ in 2010. Their biomorphic works defy categorization, most often occupying the interstitial space between fine art and functional objects. Their works incorporate materials such as marble, bronze, ceramics, beads, porcelain, wood, brass and more to create furniture, home decor, architecture, fine art and digital media. Their retrospective, Uncanny Valley, opened in October 2025 at the Cranbrook Art Museum, traveled to the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY, and will then reach the Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, TX, in 2026, followed by the Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC in 2027.
The Haas Brothers have had numerous solo exhibitions in the United States and abroad, including Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, TX (2024), Jeffrey Deitch, Los Angeles, CA (2023), Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York, NY (2024, 2019); SOCO Gallery, Charlotte, NC (2019); the Bass Museum of Art, Miami, FL (2018); Lora Reynolds Gallery, Austin, TX (2023, 2017, 2016); Gallery All, Shanghai, China (2022) Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago, IL (2017); and Galerie Gmurzynska, Zurich, Switzerland (2013). Their work was included in the Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York, NY and can be found in the permanent collections of the RISD Museum, Providence, RI, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York, NY, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, and LACMA, Los Angeles, CA. The artists live and work in Los Angeles, CA.
