BIO
Xavier Guardans' (b. 1954, Spanish) photographs, taken over many decades and in many countries, provide a generous range of conceptual and aesthetic pleasures. An avid traveler and explorer, Guardans has a deep interest in nature, light and perception. His globe-trotting lifestyle has taken him to the deserts of Egypt and Kenya to rarely visited glaciers in Patagonia, and most places in-between. Born in Barcelona in 1954, Guardans received his education at the Bournemouth College of Art in England, graduating with a degree in photography in 1982. Shortly thereafter, Guardans began exhibiting across Europe at such prestigious museums as Whitechapel Gallery, in 1981 (London), Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de España, in 1986 (Spain), and Museo Contemporaneo de Ibiza in 1998. His photographs are included many private collections around the world, and in the permanent collections of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid, Spain), and the Center of Creative Photography (Tucson, Arizona). His monograph Windows was published by Damiani in 2014, and his new monograph Traveling Lights was released Spring of 2015. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and Departures, among others. The artist currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
