Registrar
Part-time · Reports to Gallery Manager & Director
Position Summary
The Registrar manages the full lifecycle of artwork handling and documentation for SOCO Gallery — condition reporting, inventory tracking, shipping logistics, and consignment and loan paperwork. This role calls for meticulous attention to detail, comfort with both hands-on artwork handling and digital recordkeeping, and the judgment to protect work at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
Create and file condition reports for incoming and outgoing artwork
Maintain accurate, up-to-date artwork location and inventory records
Coordinate shipping logistics, including quotes, packing specifications, and carrier selection
Manage consignment agreements and paperwork for shop and gallery artwork
Support exhibition install/deinstall, including condition checks and artwork movement logs
Maintain organized artwork photography and documentation
Assemble exhibition binders and archival records (artist CVs, bios, press materials, checklists, provenance)
Liaise with art handlers, framers, conservators, and shipping vendors
Partner with sales and accounting on invoicing for shipped or delivered work
Qualifications
1–3+ years of registrarial, collections management, or art handling experience
Familiarity with collections management and inventory/POS software, or strong aptitude to learn quickly
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Comfortable with hands-on artwork handling, including lifting and packing works of varying scale and fragility
Strong communication skills
Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field preferred
